Item Links

Item links let normal book text behave like a lightweight item reference. Select text, right click the page, choose Item Link, then pick an item from the search overlay. The selected words become blue, underlined text, and hovering them shows that item's normal Minecraft tooltip.

Quick flow
  • Type text on a writable book page.
  • Select the words that should become the item link.
  • Right click the page and choose Item Link.
  • Search for an item and select it.
  • Hover the linked text to view the item tooltip.

What Can Be Linked

Item links can point at any registered non-air item. Unlike item sketches, they are not limited to non-block items, because the link only needs to display an item tooltip.

RuleBehavior
SelectionItem Link is only enabled while text is selected on the current page.
SearchThe search matches item ids and item names, then shows up to 100 results.
TooltipHovering the linked text shows the same item tooltip Minecraft would normally show for that item.
Page rangeLinks are stored per page, with the normal writable-book page and text limits.
ScholarCompatible Scholar books and lectern editing use the same item-link flow.

Editing Notes

Creating an item link does not add a sketch to the page and does not require a Pencil. It stores the selected text range plus the chosen item id on the book. If you make a new link over text that overlaps an older one, the new link replaces that overlapping range and keeps non-overlapping links on the page.

Server validation

The server verifies that linked ranges fit inside the current page text and that every linked item id exists before saving the item-link data.
