Setup
This page covers the practical flow: crafting pencils, storing them, adding sketches to books, recolouring sketches, and using Torn Sketch items.
Items
| Item | Use |
|---|---|
| Pencil | Required for adding graphite sketches to books. |
| Coloured Pencils | Unlock recolouring options for stored sketches. |
| Pencil Case | Stores one pencil of each colour and counts as available pencil storage. |
| Torn Sketch | A ripped-out sketch page that can render in inventories and item frames. |
Crafting
| Result | Recipe shape |
|---|---|
| Pencil | Stick above Coal. |
| Coloured Pencil | Stick above the matching dye. |
| Pencil Case | Iron Nuggets around String in a cross pattern. |
Click pencils onto the Pencil Case to insert them. Right click the case onto an empty slot to pull one pencil back out. If the case is destroyed as an item entity, stored pencils drop out.
Remember A Scene
- Stand where you want the scene captured.
- Press the
Remember Scenekeybind. - Sketchbook briefly hides the HUD and stores the processed sketch as a scene memory.
- Open a Book and Quill later and select that memory from the page context menu.
Scene memories are temporary. They are stored per player and expire according to server config.
Add A Sketch To A Book
- Open a Book and Quill.
- Go to an empty page.
- Right click inside the page area.
- Choose
Sketchto capture the current view, or chooseMemoriesto use a remembered scene.
If the page already has text, the menu shows that the page must be empty. If the page already has a sketch, the menu changes to sketch management actions.
Manage Existing Sketches
Right click a page that already has a sketch.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Delete Sketch | Removes the sketch from the page. |
| Rip Page | Removes the sketch from the book and gives the player a Torn Sketch item. |
| Colour | Opens a submenu for recolouring the sketch with available coloured pencils. |
If the player's inventory is full when ripping a page, the Torn Sketch is dropped instead.
Recolour A Sketch
Recolouring works on sketches that still have their source image stored.
- Keep coloured pencils in inventory, inside a Pencil Case, or inside an equipped Curios Pencil Case.
- Open the
Coloursubmenu on an existing sketch. - Toggle
Allor individual colours. - Close the menu to commit the recolour to the server.
Legacy or damaged sketch data without a source image can still display, but cannot be recoloured.
Torn Sketch Items
A Torn Sketch keeps a reference to the stored sketch instead of copying the whole image into the item.
- In inventories, it renders on a torn canvas.
- In item frames, it renders the actual sketch instead of the default item icon.
- If the client has not cached the sketch yet, it requests the sketch reference from the server.
Timeline Dates
When Timeline is installed, Sketchbook can work with dates in two places:
Add dateinserts the current Timeline date into a writable book page if the text still fits.- Signing a book stamps the written book with the current Timeline date and shows it in the tooltip.
The date action is only useful on non-sketch pages because sketch pages are reserved for the image.
